Welcome to Superfluous, a charming café tucked away at 35, Jalan Bukit Desa 5, Taman Bukit Desa, 58100 Kuala Lumpur. Known for its inviting ambiance and unique design, this neighborhood gem is perfect for coffee aficionados, casual brunchers, and anyone in search of a peaceful retreat from the bustle of the city.

Upon entering, you’ll notice the café's aesthetic that evokes a sense of calm. It features a blend of modern decor and homely touches, making it an ideal backdrop for relaxation or a productive work session. The gentle background music, harmoniously combined with the cool air conditioning, creates an atmosphere that encourages leisurely conversations or quiet moments with a book.

Now let’s talk about the menu—Superfluous really shines with its selection. Dive into their expertly crafted plain croissant, hailed by customers as the best they’ve ever experienced. Flaky, buttery, and light, this croissant is the epitome of what a perfect pastry should be. Pair it with a cup of their well-regarded coffee, which has received mentions for its rich flavor, and savor the moment.

Another noteworthy dish is the Chicken Oyako Don. This hearty bowl comes with a generous portion size, featuring perfectly seasoned and fried chicken that harmonizes beautifully with the rice. Customers have remarked on its impressive serving size and delightful taste, making it an excellent choice for those looking to indulge.

As every café has its quirks, Superfluous is no exception. Some menu items have received mixed reviews; for example, the sourdough served with truffle butter has been described as slightly tough, with the truffle butter failing to deliver on the aromatic promise one might expect. Still, its overall decent offerings keep patrons coming back for more.

Don’t miss out on their Portuguese egg tarts, which are available for RM11.50 a pair, featuring an eggy filling that oozes comfort with every bite. The ambiance paired with quality food makes for a delightful outing with friends or a calming solo visit to enjoy a cup of their smooth matcha latte.

Highlighted in customer reviews, Superfluous has earned praise for its friendly staff, who contribute to the welcoming environment. Visitors like Chloe Goh and Ky have appreciated the café's vibe while enjoying their coffee and pastries, making it a perfect spot for a casual meet-up or a quiet journaling session. However, newcomers are encouraged to embrace the café's unique design quirks—like the manual sliding door at the entrance—adding to its charm.

Whether you’re in the mood for a quick caffeine fix, a leisurely brunch, or a cozy place to unwind, make your way to Superfluous. Discover how this café has successfully carved out its niche in Taman Desa, nestled between two well-established spots, and experience for yourself the delightful offerings that this neighborhood café proudly presents.

Some hits and misses at this neighbourhood cafe. We start with the hits. The plain croissant is the best I’ve ever had. Coffee is very good. Chicken oyako don very big portion and chicken was nicely seasoned and fried. Their miss is the sourdough with truffle butter. Sourdough a bit tough but still decent. The truffle butter was disappointing. Could not smell the truffle when it was served and when I ate it with the bread, I could hardly taste the truffle. If they can improve on their truffle butter it would be great. Ambience is very nice in the morning, peaceful and quiet. Parking was okay.

super friendly staff, love the bgm playing in the cafe, and the aircon temperature is just right to beat the msian heat went there for a quick coffee and journal sesh, also had a takeaway of shio pan and bagel which smelled & taste amazing (please do lightly reheat the bread for extra crunch) i ordered americano which taste pretty decent but personally i would prefer if it has a stronger taste will come again!

Cafe with a unique design concept. The entrance is actually a manual sliding door, but many patrons can't figure it out. Even the the toilet door closes so flush against the wall that you will question where the toilet is if the stall is occupied. Conclusion is that they should really invest in some signs. Black coffee is decent. The Portuguese egg tarts are RM11.50 for a pair. Filling is eggy, but the pastry a bit too thin in my opinion. Sourdough, pasta, and rice bowls available. Friendly service.

First, kudos to the owner for their bravery! They dared to open a cafe nestled between two established names: Kew Patisseries (once known for the town's best croissant) and Red Kettle (a “Old-Guard” in Taman Desa). Remarkably, this newcomer has carved its own niche. The cafe's aesthetic interior exudes a serene and calming ambiance, perfectly suited for the quiet commercial area of Taman Desa. During our recent visit, we tried their big breakfast, smoked duck aglio olio, carbonara, poppy seed lemon cake, and a hot latte. While the standard cafe fare (like the hot dishes) is decent, it's the pastries that truly shine. Their croissants, in fact, are some of the best in town, a claim we can confidently make. Overall, this is a good spot for those seeking respite from a hectic day. Just like Taman Desa itself, the cafe offers a tranquil atmosphere. It's the perfect spot to catch up with an old friend or simply enjoy some quality "me time."

Loved the overall ambiance of the café. It was calm, quiet, and perfect for enjoying a cup of coffee and a relaxed brunch with a couple of friends. It’s an ideal spot for a slow, peaceful catch-up. The food was decent overall. Taste of the otak-otak probably can be improved as it doesn’t taste really like the usual otak-otak taste. The matcha latte was smooth and frothy. The highlight for me was definitely the crème brûlée cheesecake. Absolutely loved it. Looking forward to coming back to try their fried sando next.

Located at the quieter section of Taman Desa is Superfluous Cafe. In an area (Taman Desa) where many bakery-cafe are plying their trades, their pastries especially croissant and sourdough prove to be quite popular among the patrons. With modern contemporary designs, there are limited tables available hence might not be suitable for big groups. Love the overall ambience of the cafe - quiet and peaceful. Perfect for a nice conversation. Cold brew black & kombucha soothed our thirst for about an hour or so. The food looked tempting at the next table, hope to be able to try next time. Sandwiched between the more established Red Kettle and Kew Patisserie, they thrived and carved their own niche with quiet & serene ambience within this minimalist interior.

Great fried sandwiches. Good for sharing as they were a little greasy, but tasted great!
